Exciting matches and Hungarian victory at the 2020 FISU Forum e-sport championship

24/08/2020

Huge interest accompanied the e-sport competitions of the 2020 FISU World Forum where the contestants could test their knowledge in FIFA 20 and digital chess. Both sports celebrated South American winners however in HearthStone there was a Hungarian triumph.

The e-sport championship was one of the most exciting and expected side programmes of the 2020 FISU World Forum that was held between 12-14 August at the University of Physical Education aided by technical support of the Digital Success Programme.

After the FISU eSports Challenge, the first e-sports tournament organised by FISU – where Hungarian students competed as well, – video game fans could test their knowledge in several games in the online sphere once again. This idea was initiated by Dr. Ferenc Dénes, leader of the Digital Sports Knowledge Centre of the Digital Success Programme, the biggest technical partner of FISU Forum.

FIFA 20

To FIFA 20, one of the most popular online games in the world, ninety-nine gamers registered, which very much surpassed the organisers’ expectations. Most of them, seventy gamers, played on PS4, thirteen played on Xbox and sixteen on HearthStone. The three-day long championship was hosted by the Debreceni Egyetemi Atlétikai Club (Athletic Club of the University of Debrecen), which had already had great experience in organising online sport events.

The registered viewers could follow the games live on the website of the event.

“There were some great games played between the contestants, and all the competitors enjoyed themselves. There were applicants from every corner of the world, and because of the time difference there were many who woke up very early or stayed up very late to be able to play. They all deserve that digital certificate that we have sent them via e-mails” – János Sánta, organiser of the competitions, informed the editorial of UNISport.

Diego Silva – who is not to be confused with Diego da Silva Costa, Spanish forward player of Atlético Madrid – the winner of the Xbox category said: “I have to thank the organisers for letting me participate in the FIFA-championship. I hope they will organise more international university games for the lovers of e-sports!”
